Ring Ouzel – two calling males on path to Bone Caves, 26th May (Andy Summers)

Shag – adult bird seen taking and eating either Oystercatcher or Eider chicks on at least two occasions Culkein Drumbeg, 26th May (Corinne France). This is unusual behaviour for shags and could indicate a lack of food in the sea or just an easy meal. Does anyone else know of this happening?

OTHERS

Dead cetacean – badly decomposed on rocks to north of Balchladich Bay, it is a dolphin sp. (either Common or Striped Dolphin) but details and photos have been submitted to the Scottish Marine Animals Stranding Scheme for confirmation. 9th July, confirmation received from SMASS that the obvious nasal groves in the upper palate make this a Common Dolphin, the upper palate of the Striped Dolphin is much smoother.
