  • Barn Owl: turning up on feeding station in Torbreck garden (Michael Rochester). This bird may have learned that the voles, etc. in the area are scavenging food scraps and so is sitting in wait for them!
  • Black-throated Diver: single bird Loch na Bruthaich north of Clashnessie (DAH). This loch only infrequently has birds on it but being immediately adjacent to the B869 you are sure of a good view of any birds that do turn up.

  • Ringed Plover: several on nests Bay of Culkein and single nest Clashnessie Bay (DAH). Please take care if you go on to our beaches at this time of year, whether sandy or pebbly; Ringed Plover nests and eggs are very, very difficult to see and as a result can get stood on and destroyed, thank you.

  • Shelduck: two (a pair) in Culkein Drumbeg harbour area (DAH). Still present the following day. Photo on Birds Gallery.

  • Great Skua: 22 off Culkein Drumbeg (DAH). These birds were on the surface of the sea apparently feeding along with mixed species of gulls.
