31st March 2019

  • Wheatear: two birds on Clachtoll Peat Road and a single at Raffin (Liz Burns) also a single bird at Achmelvich (Romany Garnett)
  • Little Grebe: two birds calling on Maiden Loch, Clachtoll (Liz Burns)
  • Lapwing: 7+ birds back on breeding territory at Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Pink-footed Goose: 11 birds grazing, and a skein of 69 flying west over, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Wigeon: pair in Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Whooper Swan: four birds on unnamed loch near Kylesku (Duncan Orr-Ewing)
  • Great Spotted Woodpecker: bird drumming in grounds of Glencanisp Lodge (Gwen Richards/Ian Evans)

  • Yellowhammer: single bird, Clachtoll (Duncan Orr-Ewing)
  • Common Sandpiper: single bird, Cam Loch (Roz Summers)

  • Whooper Swan: seven birds, Loch Awe (Gwen Richards/Ian Evans)

28th March 2019

  • Black-throated Diver: two birds at east end of Loch Assynt (Helen Morrison)
  • Gadwall: single male bird Loch Neil Bhain (DAH). This is a very rare record of this species for Assynt; they are recorded almost annually at Balnakeil, much further north. Photo Gallery - Birds

  • Little Grebe: two birds, Loch Ruighean an Aitinn, Drumbeg (Ian Evans)
  • Lapwing: three birds Loch Neil Bhain (DAH)
  • Greenshank: single bird Loch Neil Bhain (DAH)

25th March 2019

  • Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly: one on a windowsill inside Lochinver Village Hall (Gwen Richards). It had probably hibernated as an adult in the hall.
  • Wheatear: single male on fence post, Stoer fank (DAH). The first Wheatear of 2019.

24th March 2019

  • Greenshank: single bird seen and heard, Oldany estuary (DAH)
  • Teal: eight birds (3 male, 5 female) Oldany estuary (DAH)
  • Great Northern Diver: two birds, Loch Dhrombaig (DAH)

22nd March 2019

  • Whooper Swan: 21 birds on the sea north of Bay of Culkein (DAH). These birds were clearly sheltering from the westerly gale.
  • Sanderling: single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Turnstone: eight birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)

  • Skylark: single bird in song flight, Clachtoll (Bill and Val Badger)
  • Whooper Swan: 20 birds on Loch Assynt (Claire Belshaw)
