30th August 2019

  • Arctic Skua: two birds heading north across Bay of Clachtoll (Andrew Powers)
  • Mink: adult seen twice in Nedd garden (Ian Evans). This is a worrying development and will now be followed up with live trapping.

28th August 2019

  • Flapper Skate and Catshark egg cases: three Flapper Skate egg cases and a single Catshark egg case, beach below Raffin (Vickii Campen and John Muir Trust volunteers). These cases were found during a beach clean which itself resulted in 275kg of plastics and other marine litter being removed!

  • Glaucous Gull: 3rd-winter/adult bird, Bay of Clachtoll (Andrew Powers)

  • Otter: single animal off Lochinver breakwater (Les and Liz Pearce)
  • Grey Wagtail and Dipper: single of each bird on the Allt a’ Choinne Mhill, Conival (Claire Belshaw)

  • Black-tailed Godwit: single bird Rubh'an Dunain (Paul Burnett)
  • Bar-tailed Godwit: three birds on grazing between Clachtoll and Stoer and then three on beach at Clachtoll on the 24th (Andrew Powers)

  • Goldfinch: 22 Culkein Stoer and 14 Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
  • Waders on Migration: Dunlin 7; Sanderling 1; Ringed Plover 42; Redshank (juveniles) 2; Oystercatcher 49; Turnstone 3; Curlew 8 and Whimbrel 1, all Bay of Culkein/Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Merlin: single bird near Clashnessie (DAH)

  • Goldeneye: single female Loch Drumbeg (DAH)

  • White-tailed Eagle: immature bird off Kirkaig Point (Adrian Stabler)
  • Larch Ladybird (Aphidecta obliterata): single beetle foraging, Culkein Stoer (DAH). This appears to be only the third record of this species for Assynt, the last being in 2008 near Inchnadamph. It is probably very under recorded. Photos Gallery - Beetles
  • Stoat: single animal hunting through/on dry stone wall, Balchladich (DAH)

  • Red-throated Diver: single adult bird flying over Bay of Stoer with large Mackerel in its beak (DAH)
  • Sanderling: four adults, and a single adult Turnstone, Bay of Stoer (DAH)
  • Common Dolphin: 60+ in four groups at various distances off Bay of Stoer (DAH)

  • Redshank: two adult birds, Oldany Estuary (DAH)

  • Minke Whale: single animal off Raffin (DAH)
  • Common Dolphin: several small pods seen from Stoerhead Lighthouse (DAH)
  • Whimbrel: single bird on grazing near Stoerhead Lighthouse (DAH)
  • Twite: flock of c20 birds, Balchladich (DAH)
  • Tufted Duck: adult male in eclipse plumage, Loch na Claise (DAH)
  • Pied Wagtail: 14 birds, juveniles and adults, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Dunlin: single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Lapwing: single adult and three well grown juveniles, Loch Neil Bhain (DAH)

1st August 2019

  • Sparrowhawk: single bird, Badnaban garden (Dave Bird). Dived, unsuccessfully, at speed into a group of Rock Doves ground feeding beneath garden feeders.
