  • Long-tailed Duck: single female, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Mixed waders, Bay of Culkein: 13 Ringed Plover; 3 Redshank; 1 Curlew; 6 Oystercatcher; 4 Turnstone; 2 Dunlin (DAH)
  • Redwing: 27 on overhead wire, Totag and 30+ Culkein Stoer (DAH)

  • Goldfinch: single juvenile bird on garden feeder, Torbreck (Gwen Richards). This is not too unusual for Goldfinch as they can be late breeders and then garden feeders gives them a good food source.

20th October 2019

  • Mink: single animal spotted near Raffin salmon bothies (David & Irene McGrath). Another worrying sighting which will now require monitoring in the immediate area.
  • Common Seal: c38 Loch Roe, Achmelvich (Liz & Rob Burns)

  • Grey Wagtail: single bird perched on overhead power line adjacent to Glendarrach Wood, Lochinver (Chris & Fran Barley)

  • White-tailed Eagle: single bird overhead Glendarrach and Baddidarrach, Lochinver (Chris and Fran Barley, Ken Fairchild)
  • Great Northern Diver: single bird in almost complete breeding plumage, Clashnessie Bay (DAH)
  • Great Skua: single bird over Clashnessie Bay (DAH)

  • Pink-footed Goose: single skein of c130 birds heading south-east over Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
  • Otter: single animal crossing road at Culag River bridge, Lochinver (DAH)
  • Long-tailed Tit: noisy, active flock of c12 birds, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)

  • Whooper Swan: five adults and two juveniles, Lochan Fearna, Lagg (Tom Sharpe)
  • Common Dolphin: two small, very active pods (12 and 6) off Clachtoll (DAH)

  • Weasel: single animal seen running across road near River Kirkaig bridge (Bronia Adrian)
  • Great White Egret: single bird feeding along north-east side of Loch Borralan (Les and Liz Pearce). This is the first known record of this Grey Heron sized bird in Assynt. It also follows on from Les and Liz adding Little Egret to the Assynt bird list last September! (Photo Gallery - Birds)

  • Mistle Thrush: three birds, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)

  • Whooper Swan: c12 birds (adults and juveniles) Loch na Claise over the weekend 5-6 October (Frances Mackenzie)
  • Snipe: three birds in total - one flushed from roadside ditch, Balchladich and two lifted from the grazing between Culkein and Achnacarnin (Mel Bale and Pauline Williams)
