29th February 2020

  • Frog Spawn: two clumps in Drumbeg garden pond (Nancy Millar). Our first report of frog spawn this year. The first record for the last five years: 2019 - 16 Feb; 2018 - 13 March; 2017 - 19 Feb; 2016 - 3 March; 2015 - 19 Feb.
  • Barnacle Goose: six birds visible on Eilean Chrona off Clashnessie (DAH)
  • Auks: four Razorbill along with three Common Guillemot and two Black Guillemot, Clashnessie Bay (DAH)
  • Common Gull: 52 birds, Clashnessie Bay (DAH)
  • Turnstone: nine birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Lapwing: two male birds back on breeding territory, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Pied Wagtail: single male bird, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Skylark: single bird feeding, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
  • Greylag Goose: 24 birds, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Great Northern Diver: five birds Loch Dhrombaig (DAH)

26th February 2020

  • Mixed Thrushes: four Mistle Thrush and single Fieldfare and Redwing, Oldany Farm (DAH)
  • Whooper Swan: three birds (two adult, one 1st-winter) Loch Culag (Fiona Carter)
  • Tufted Duck: two male birds, Loch na Claise (DAH)
  • Curlew: 10 birds on grazing land, Balchladich (DAH)
  • Cormorant: single adult bird, Lochan Fearna, Lagg (DAH)

  • Otter: two animals feeding at the water line during low tide, Loch Kirkaig (Fiona Carter)

  • Goldeneye: two pairs on Loch Ruighean an Aitinn, Drumbeg (Ian Evans)
  • Primrose: one small clump flowering, south facing sheltered spot, Lochinver (DAH)
  • Grey Wagtail: single 1st-winter bird Inverkirkaig (DAH)
  • Pied Wagtail: single male Inverkirkaig (DAH)
  • Ringed Plover: five birds on grassland to north side of Loch an Aigeil (Ian Evans)

21st February 2020

  • Jackdaw: 30+ birds feeding near main road, Elphin (DAH)
  • White-tailed Eagle: single bird high over Ledmore Junction (DAH)

  • Cormorant: Single adult Loch Awe ( AS)
  • Bullfinch: single bird daily on garden peanut feeder along with regular Treecreeper, Inchnadamph (Chris Rix)
  • Grey Heron: single bird looking for food in garden pond, Torbreck (Gwen Richards)

  • Cormorant: Adult drying wings Maiden Loch, Clachtoll (AS)
  • Great Northern Diver: four birds, Loch Dhrombaig (DAH)

  • Bullfinch: five birds in Culag Woods (AS)

  • Harbour Porpoise: two animals off Bay of Clachtoll (DAH)
  • Redshank: three birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Curlew: 15 birds flying between Stoer and Clachtoll (DAH)
  • Pygmy Shrew – skull in owl pellet: skull of Pygmy Shrew, along with those of two Field Voles, found after examination of probable Tawny Owl pellet, Clachtoll Peat Track, Creag Clais nan Cruineachd (Gwen Richards and Ian Evans)

  • Skylark: single bird flying over Culkein Drumbeg (DAH). This is the same date as 2019 for the first record of this species, last year's was at Clachtoll.
  • Bullfinch: pair over Achmelvich bridge (DAH)
  • Goldeneye: two males and one female Loch Fasg an t-Seana Chlaidh (DAH)
  • Great Northern Diver: Single in winter plumage, Lochinver bay (AS)

  • Goldfinch: 15 birds, Pollachapuill, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
  • Long-tailed Tit: seven birds, Pollachapuill, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
