  • Red Admiral butterfly: singles seen Achmelvich bridge (30 May), Stoer (30 May) and Culkein Drumbeg (31 May) (DAH)

  • Dunlin: 68 birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Red-throated Diver: single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Lesser Black-backed Gull: two sub-adult birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Bird’s-nest Orchid (Neottia nidus-avis): two large spikes of this unique orchid near Achmelvich (I. Evans/G. Richards). This is only the second location in Assynt where this orchid has been recorded. Photo Gallery - Flowering Plants & Ferns

  • Osprey: single bird between Ardvreck Castle and Inchnadamph (Michael Rochester). This sighting was made from the service bus!

  • Gannet: single bird at east end of Loch Assynt, circling and looking lost (Helen Morrison). The previous two days there had been south easterly gales, turning then into the west.

  • Wood Speedwell (Veronica montana): several plants on Nedd croft (Ian M. Evans). This is a new record to Assynt and West Sutherland; accidentally introduced?

  • Otter: Dead young or small otter at Clachtoll beach. No obvious cause of death (Walter Mackenzie)
  • House Martin and Swallow: two House Martin and four Swallows feeding over Loch Ruighean an Aitinn (DAH)

  • Stonechat: male seen near Glencanisp Lodge with food in his mouth, this indicates young being fed and so successful breeding (David McGrath)

  • Kittiwake: 117 heading south past Stoerhead Lighthouse in under 2 minutes (DAH)
  • Sedge Warbler: two birds singing from reed beds, Loch na Claise (DAH)
