  • Dunlin: three birds (2 adult, 1 juvenile) Bay of Culkein (DAH)

22nd July 2020

  • Cetaceans: 20+ Common Dolphin; 2 Harbour Porpoise; single Minke Whale; and a large whale, very probably a Humpback. All off Stoer Head Lighthouse (DAH/Lara Cordwell)

  • Black-throated Diver: six adult birds on Loch Awe (Annella Bulch)

19th July 2020

  • Goldfinch: 50+ (adults and juveniles) on overhead wires, Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)

18th July 2020

  • Ringed Plover: adult birds with single chick and second egg in nest, Clashnessie Bay car park (DAH). This pair of birds started nesting during lockdown when the road and car park were significantly less busy. Several local people erected signs and barriers to help protect the nest. After three weeks of being incubated the first egg hatched on 18 July. Photo Gallery - Birds.

  • Field Gentian (Gentianella campestris): 129 plants on cliffs north-west of Stoer Green, just off path (Bill and Val Badger). A very impressive stand of this plant

  • Creeping Cinquefoil (Potentilla reptans): 0.5 sq.m. of this plant on stoned track, Culag Woods (Gwen Richards and Jane Young). This is the first Assynt record since 25/06/1955 at Inchnadamph

  • Common Gull: five birds (2 adults, 3 chicks) Maiden Loch, Clachtoll (Liz Burns). First seen 4 July 2020 with chicks now on the water and exploring.

  • Speckled Wood butterfly: 3+ flying at edge of woodland, 95 Achmelvich (Gwen Richards and Ian Evans)
  • Grey Wagtail: single north-east of Imirfada (Ian Evans) and two on Abhainn Clais an Eas near old mill, all Clashnessie (DAH)
  • Emerald Damselfly (Lestes sponsa): single male, Loch a'Mhi Runaich, Stoer (Gwen Richards and Ian Evans)
  • Redshank: single bird calling near Stoer Head Lighthouse (DAH)
  • Stonechat: a pair above Maiden Loch, Clachtoll (Liz Burns)
  • Mountain Hare: Single near summit of Beinn Uidhe (David McBain) 
  • Little Grebe: Pair with single chick at Loch na Clais (Andrew MacKenzie)

  • Shelduck: pair flying low over Lochan na Leobaig (DAH)
  • Black-headed Gull: two birds over Culkein Drumbeg and five in Clashnessie Bay (DAH)
  • Greylag Goose: 26 including 4 juveniles at Loch an Aigeil (AS)
