  • Kestrel: Single bird hovering between road and waterfall, Clashnessie (Neil McCrimmon)

  • Fieldfare and Redwing: A mixed flock of c30 fieldfare and c10 redwing in tall aspens, Nedd (Ian Evans). Mixed flock of 200+ birds over Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)

  • Dipper: Single bird by River Inver, Brackloch (Carol Langford)

  • Pheasant: Single hen bird in back garden, Nedd (Ian Evans).  Rarely seen in this part of Assynt
  • Great Northern Diver: Single bird, Bay of Stoer (John Gilbertson)

20th November 2021

  • Redwing and Fieldfare: c80 birds in a mixed flock flying over the B869 by Rhicarn (Richard Chappell and Ennis Jones)
  • Dipper: Single bird in tree overhanging river Inver, Little Assynt (Richard Chappell and Ennis Jones)
  • Kestrel: Single bird hovering by roadside, Inchnadamph (Richard Chappell and Ennis Jones)
  • Sparrowhawk: Single female flying over salmon bothy, Clachtoll (Richard Chappell and Ennis Jones)

16th November 2021

  • Lapwing: Single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH/Morag Moir). This is an unusual winter record for Assynt. Our breeding Lapwings tend to depart as soon as the youngsters can fly, and we don't see them again until the following year. There is a notable wintering population on the Uists so perhaps it was a bird from there?
  • Redshank: Two birds, Bay of Culkein (Morag Moir/DAH)
  • Purple Sandpiper: Three birds, Bay of Culkein (Morag Moir/DAH)

  • Grey Wagtail: Single bird by garden pond, Torbreck (Gwen Richards)

  • Long-tailed Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch: c20 birds in a mixed flock on roadside rowans between Badnaban and Inverkirkaig (Richard Chappell and Ennis Jones)
  • Great Northern Diver: Two birds feeding, Bay of Culkein (Morag Moir)
  • Red-throated Diver: A group of 15 birds moving northwards along the coast and a single bird feeding, Bay of Culkein (Morag Moir)

12th November 2021

  • Harbour Porpoise: Two adult animals heading north, c400m off Balchladich (Ennis Jones and Richard Chappell)
  • Little Grebe: Two birds, Loch na Claise (DAH)
  • Goldeneye: Three male birds, Loch na Claise (DAH)
  • Tufted Duck: Three birds, Loch na Claise (DAH)
  • Reed Bunting: 18 birds on overhead wires, Clashmore (DAH). A good count for Assynt of birds possibly recently arrived from northern Europe or leaving higher ground nearer home.
  • Carrion Crow: Single bird and also single Hooded/Carrion Crow hybrid, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Curlew: 14 birds on croft, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Dunlin: Single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Purple Sandpiper: Single bird, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Turnstone: 20+ birds, Bay of Culkein (DAH)
  • Swallow: Single bird, possibly two, flying around beach, Inverkirkaig (Mike Dawber).  This is a very late sighting.
  • Snow Bunting: Two birds, Clachtoll (Paul Burnett)
  • Fieldfare and Redwing: 30+ birds in tall aspens, Nedd (Ian Evans). These are the first birds to be seen at this location this autumn
  • Long-tailed Tit: Three birds, Torbreck garden (Gwen Richards)
  • Otter: Two animals - mother and pup - by Lochinver harbour (Fiona Carter)

  • Fieldfare: 100-150 birds Glenbain, Inchnadamph (Fiona Carter). One large flock, one smaller flock circling the moorland.
  • Gannet: Single immature bird flying just off Clachtoll Broch, Bay of Stoer (Ennis Jones)

  • Badger: Single animal by side of A837 Loch Assynt (Robert & Liz Burns), also single animal by Loch Culag (Fiona Carter)
  • Dipper: Three birds feeding in fast flowing River Inver opposite Little Assynt Tree Nursery (Ennis Jones and Richard Chappell)
  • Fieldfare: 24+ birds over Little Assynt Tree Nursery (DAH)
  • White-tailed Eagle: Single bird over Clachtoll (Paul Burnett)

  • Roe Deer: Single buck crossing road east of Loch na Bruithaich (Ian Evans)

  • White-tailed Eagle: Single bird over Culkein Stoer (Paul Burnet)

  • Starling: 40+ birds, Culkein Stoer (DAH)
  • Barnacle Goose: c14 birds on Eilean Chrona (DAH)
  • Greenfinch: Four birds feeding in Rowan tree, Loch Eileanach, Lagg (DAH)
  • Redwing: Two birds feeding in Rowan tree, Loch Eileanach, Lagg (DAH). Could this be the start of our influx of winter thrushes?
  • Kestrel: Single bird (female) hunting over Culkein Drumbeg (DAH)
