Cetaceans

July 26th 2023

Andy Summers, the Highlife Highland Countryside Ranger and Assynt Field Club held their annual evening cetacean watch at Stoer Head Lighthouse today. It was a sunny evening and the sea was by no means flat calm. The 100 or so people that turned up were treated to the following sightings-

Harbour Porpoise x 2, Risso’s Dolphin x 3 (mother and calf plus another single adult), numerous Common Dolphins, and at least three Humpback Whales that were breaching and creating massive splashes that could be clearly seen with the naked eye.

A very enjoyable evening, and a massive thank you to all the Assynt residents and visitors that came along.
