Gannet
September 11th 2017
111 heading north past Clachtoll in 15 minutes (Ennis Jones and Richard Chappell). This report also mentioned that the passage of birds had been non-stop for at least 2 hours. Similarly a report later in the day by Mal Edwards noted “100’s of Gannets heading north past Stoer Head Lighthouse all morning”.
It is possible that these birds were on migration to the west coast of Africa and, sensing the storm approaching Wales and England, decided to turn back north to move out of its path.
