Albacore Tuna fish washed up dead in Assynt

A very unusual sight greeted Field Club member Gwen Richards recently when walking at Culkein Stoer.

This large dead fish was spotted and photographed by Gwen on 9 October 2011.

It turned out to be an Albacore Tuna fish, Thunnus alalunga. We have no idea how it got to be in the sea around Assynt as its home is really very much further south.
