Common (Scarlet) Rosefinch

Another new bird species for Assynt was recorded during October 2011.

A juvenile Common (or Scarlet) Rosefinch Carpodacus erythrinus appeared on a bird table in Lochinver. The bird was around from 19-24th October causing much head scratching as to its identification.

It was eventually identified from photographs taken by Julian Jacobsen. The record was submitted to and was confirmed by the Highland Records Committee.
