History of the Quinag Estate

Malcolm Bangor-Jones

Malcolm is a retired civil servant who manages a woodland croft in Assynt which his parents had moved to in 1964.  He has maintained an interest in Highland history for many years.  His most recent publications cover the resettlement of Strathnaver by the Congested Districts Board in 1901 and emigration from Sutherland to Prince Edward Island.  He is chair of the voluntary organisation ARCH (Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands).  You can find further information on ARCH here.

His account of the history of the estate and associated landscape features may be accessed here (10MB pdf).  We would like to thank the John Muir Trust and the Coigach and Assynt Living Landscape Partnership for grant-aiding its publication.
