Recording – Scotland’s Pollinator Strategy

The guest speaker for our indoor meeting on Thursday 14th December 2023 was Jim Jeffrey, Pollinator Strategy Manager at NatureScot. Jim’s talk reminded us why we needed a Scottish Pollinator Strategy, what it aims to deliver, how a range of partners work together to create pollinator friendly projects, and look at some of the science behind the strategy.

We managed to secure Jim as a speaker after he had been browsing the Club’s website and came across our Sounds of Nature Project. By chance we had just added the post ‘Solitary bees at Clashnessie’ . Jim was asking for permission to link to that post as part of his pollinator blog. Quid pro quo, as they say!

This post is to make the Zoom recording of Jim’s talk available to anyone at anytime.

Here is the link to the presentation which does not require you to leave our website. Enjoy.

Recording – Scotland’s Pollinator Strategy with Jim Jeffrey

Addition 21-1-24

During the question and answer session one of the questions asked was “what are the best plants to plant here [Assynt] for pollinators”.

Jim was careful not to fully answer that one for two reasons. He is not a botanist, and certainly advice for the north-west highlands would need to be more specific than might apply further south given soil types, the weather, exposure, etc.

Jim did promise to speak to his colleagues about this and get back with more information.

He has now done just that. The information provided by several of his colleagues is now available on our website at this link.

Thank you Jim and colleagues.
