Glenleraig: a drastically changed landscape

Under the Radiant Hill, published by Birlinn in spring 2023 (photo 1), is Robin Noble’s fascinating account of the cottage at Glenleraig, its immediate surroundings and the wider Assynt landscape.  Here he spent childhood holidays (1959-1972) and later lived (1995-2010).

Robin’s understanding of the local landscape is unrivalled, based on over sixty years of enjoyment of it, active involvement in the community and keen observation.

Chapter 25 Transformation describes the changes that have occurred in the vegetation of the parks around the cottage, from flower-rich meadows (photo 2) to dense bracken (photo 3).  This is his account of these changes, which must be mirrored all over Assynt.
