Recording – Peatland Resilience in the Flow Country

March 25th 2025

March 20th, 2025

The guest speaker for our indoor meeting on Thursday 20th March 2025 was Professor Roxane Andersen of the Environmental Research Institute, University of the Highlands and Islands.

The full title of the talk was ‘Peatland resilience in the context of climate extremes and land use change: lessons learned in the Flow Country’.

A large area within the Flow Country has recently secured UNESCO World Heritage Site status, as a globally significant exemplar of a functioning blanket bog landscape. But some areas were excluded from the UNESCO designation due to degradation and development. In this talk, Professor Andersen explored how more than a decade of research in the Flow Country peatland has allowed the documentation of blanket bog responses to restoration intervention, degradation, and climate extremes. She discussed how science can be integrated into policy and practice to ensure that resilience within both the landscape and its people can be maintained for the future.

This post is to ensure a live recording of Professor Andersen’s presentation is available to anyone at any time.

The file size means we have to lodge these presentations on our YouTube channel. Therefore, this link to the recording of the presentation will take you away from our website.

Thank you and enjoy.
