Merlin

August 19th 2021

Single bird at Split Rock, Bay of Clachtoll (Andrew Powers). It appeared from North of the headland and made a sustained, but unsuccessful, effort to catch one of a flock of 22 linnets feeding on the rocks and turf. Following this it perched on the rocks but was dive bombed and driven off by an Arctic tern. This was repeated a further two times before the merlin disappeared from view to the north reappearing few minutes later and taking a direct route from Split Rock to Achmelvich Bay.
