Should we still be Burning Assynt? with Ian Evans (Assynt Field Club)

17th November 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Should we still be Burning Assynt? with Ian Evans (Assynt Field Club)

Burning is a traditional way of managing the Assynt landscape, dating back to the Iron Age.  However, we now appreciate that it reduces soil fertility, destroys biodiversity, prevents the natural regeneration of woodland and contributes significantly to climate change.  Surely the time has come to stop burning?

The speaker is a naturalist and former professional ecologist, who has lived in Assynt for over 30 years.  He is a co-author of the Flora of Assynt (2002) and editor of the report on Muirburn in Assynt (2007) The texts of both are available on the Field Club website.

The start time is 7.30pm in Community Room, Lochinver Village Hall.  Admission for adults is £3, with under 16s free.  Refreshments are provided after the talk.

This will be a blended talk with both a live audience and others joining us by Zoom.

Field Club members will receive the Zoom link automatically. If you are not a member but would like to attend the meeting via Zoom please email us (assyntwildlife@gmail.com) and simply request the link.
